I'm thinking of buying a sony 50 inch LCD rear projection tv very soon. I wanted to know what the best distance for viewing would be.

Thanks for any info.

Mike if you have control over ambient lighting in your room and can run some wires, look into a regular DLP projector and a good screen. You pay a lot less and get a lot more and better viewing screen.

1.5-2 screen widths is a nice rule of thumb.

The old rule of thumb that i was familiar with is 3 times the diagonal of the screen. Of course that was for CRT tube TV's. For a screen that big LCD, I would guess about 10 feet.
