Ok here goes a loaded post:

I just purchased a 785S Denon.
Now.....decision time.

I need to get some speakers to power it.

Scenario #1. Using the full 7.1.
Scenario #2. Using 5.1 and the Zone2 speakers for outdoor deck speakers.

In Scenario 1 I need to ask for an inexpensive amp to drive the two outdoor speakers.

My room however is more condusive to the 5.1 setup in scenario 2 as there is no wall to place the left middle speaker. It would be on a stand in the center of the room or hanging down from the cathedral ceiling. Bummer but it is how the room is laid out.

1. So basically what I'm asking a good sub-700 speaker set for 5.1.

2. Good outdoor speakers for my deck. Not too important

3. Is 7.1 that much better than 5.1 and am I screwing myself by going the 5.1 route.

Cheers
Robert

I think that 7.1 is grossly more engaging than 5.1(lol that just sounded artsy fartsy) so yes go with 7.1. On the zone 2 issue, I would definitely go with an external amp having been though exactly what you are pondering. I switched my outdoors onto a whole separate system and made the theater 7.1, have not looked back.
As far as recommendations, what is your budget??
