I have a countertop/bookcase that I am building and I want to place a TV on the countertop. I have heard that the TV will be too high off the floor and not at eye level when sitting on a sofa. I will get about a 48 ich TV and the countertop can be any height within reason as i am building it. I have planned the height to be 36 inches off the floor. Is this too high? Does it matter? Either DLP, CRT or LCD TVs. Thanks.

I suppose there are some 'rules of thumb' for TV placement, but all you really need to consider is where 'you' want it placed. In general, you dont want it so high to where you're looking up at the TV. Ya know....like sitting in the front row of a movie theater.

36" doesnt sound too bad providing your seating positions arent too close. Since you're building it yourself, simply measure out an imaginary screen at varying heights on the wall and pick the level that suites you best.
