Hello everyone, I was wondering if any of you well educated individuals would be able to give me some advice on what I would like to accomplish.

I have a Mitsubishi 55 inch HDTV widescreen television, that I would like to use with my computer. The reason? Well, mostly because I am bored, and also because I want to be able to play streaming video on the widescreen. Specifically, I need advice for how I will interface both video and audio with the devices I already have.

The TV model is: WS-55311.
It has: SVIDEO, component, composite, VGA (640x480), and firewire inputs. My reciever is a Sherwood (model forgotten) that has optical digital in as well as coaxial.

Now, which video input should I go with? I don't want an interlaced video signal, so that rules out composite and svideo which happen to accompany most recent video cards. So that leaves me with Component, VGA, and firewire. I don't think firewire would work, unless I used a program like Adobe Premiere to export to firewire (that would be funny). That would leave me with 2 real choices.

I have seen some adapters for the DVI connecters on some ATI cards, which convert it to component giving resolutions 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Im not sure about the VGA connector, because it says "(640x480)" right bellow the connecter.

Which one should I use? Which video card and hardware would you recomend?

Bottom line, I want the best resolution..(granted most video I would play from the computer doesnt have the best resolution in the first place). It also has can't be interlaced (ick)

As for the audio, I suppose I can use analog RCA connections, but if it would be possible to use S/PDIF or optical out, that would be neat. Which sound card would you guys recomend if I wanted to go with RCA coaxial?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to give!

Actually, you can just get a graphics card that supports screen output to tv. There are many cards out there in the market but I would prefer cards with nVIDIA GPUs for performance. There are many models and brands out there so the best bet is to check with your local computer store for advice. VGA mode gives you less than perfect colours, but works fine due to you tv's high-res output. Hope that helps.

ps. I'm using a card by MSI powered by NVIDIA's GPU.
