How to install in-dash car radio/cd player in home?

We have a tiny bathroom (4x7, and that includes the "master shower"!), that has literally no shelf space, even after the remodel we're doing right now. We'd really like a radio/cd player in there, but we have no shelf to place one on. However, I have a 7.5"-thick wall (because of the pipe stacks running up through it), and I could fit a smallish car audio receiver in there - but how would I hook it all up?

For example, would a basic Radio Shack transformer be enough to power a no-frills unit? Also, I believe there's a single power wire coming out of the audio receiver - how does that hook up to the two wiring posts on the transformer? And how do you power the station memory wire?

This seems to be a different scenario from other posts, b/c I'm not trying to combine home and car audio. I just want a complete car audio system that happens to be powered by home electricity. No subwoofers, nothing fancy - just a car radio that saves the memory settings and 2 4-inch speakers that are able to produce a steady background sound.

I'm ready to make my purchases and start wiring, but I realized when I really thought about it I had no idea what I was doing...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

This will sound better and look nice and tidy too.

Be careful with electronics near water - can be deadly as you know!

It's a $600 system but refurb. so the affordable price.

I've been away a couple of days, so I just read your post, James - unfortunately, when I clicked on the link it said 'item currently unavailable'! I guess it sold already. What was it, if you don't mind elaborating?

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

It is a flat all in one unit that can be put up on a wall like a flat TV. Yamaha and sherwood also makes one like that.

Some bestbuy carries this for $150 - sounds pretty good.
