Bookshelf + sub or floorstanders?

So I am in the market for speakers for music (mostly rock and metal). I had been thinking of getting Axiom m3ti solely based on reviews. I didnt like B&W and polk bookshelf speakers in the same price range. At Bestbuy, I had a chance to audition Athena asf2 floorstanders and I loved them for their bass response.

Now my question is: shall I get these athena floorstanders and forget about sub? Or shall I get Axiom bookshelf for now and later add a sub? I want to use my system mostly for rock and metal music. Are Axioms good for my requirements?Any other brand in 300-400 price range?

My reciever is Yamaha HTR5760.

Thanks a lot
