Rattling problem with speakers

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I am desparate for help.

Anyway, I have two DCM16S speakers.

One of my speakers, whenever a very low bass sound is play(kind of like dull thud), it rattles. Not distort, rattle. I think I've ruled out anything loose in there because the rattling is the exact same each time. Is my speaker damaged? Am I damaging it further by producing that rattling? And can limit the speaker from playing those low frequencies that produce the rattle?

Specific scenes where I've caught the rattling include the "burly brawl" in the Matrix:Reloaded, and when Treebeard is walking around in the Two Towers. I know it's this one speaker because I switched them and it moved with the speaker.

Thanks

Remove the cover on the front, and check if the surrounding foam around the big speaker is damaged - if yes, you can get a replacement on ebay, and glue it on your self - pretty easy if you are handy. If you take it to a shop, they cana do it for around $50.

It might be other problem as well - get an estimate from a local hifi shop.
Since $200 buys you speakers like Athena (http://www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com/products/product.asp?Class=714) and axiom 3ti ( http://www.vertigoonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AMB S667), it is not that big of problem - not like blowing a super expensive unit to ruin your holidays.

By the way, if you add a sub, it will sound better with a bookshelf speaker like yours as you must know - I am getting this $77 sony one - sounds decent, although boomy.

Hmm, might get that subwoofer. I have a Sony STR-485. Is it smart enough to know that when it has a subwoofer plugged in that it will stop sending the frequencies to the bookshelf speakers that make it rattle?

It would still rattle - but since you can get bigger sound with the sub, and you don't have to turn it up as loud, which might make it rattle less.

The Athena and the axiom will sound better - an affordable upgrade - your ears will thank you.

I was listening to them with the sony sub, and it got me dancing which is a good sign - few things get me that excited and it's good for my waist line - I was mesmerised.

For less than $300, it will be a noticeable improvement.

If you want to upgrade the receiver in the future, I am getting this panasonic one - sa-xr45. It's new digital technology and sounds wonderfully clean and smooth. More upscale sound for $300 shipped.

If you want to get just a smaller system, I got this Phillips mini system with digital amp also, and sounds wonderful for $145 only.

You can connect this to your computer to soup up the sound by USB by-passing the soundcard to get quality sound from your MP3s (if you download songs), and sounds considerably better than the usual small computer speakers.

Now, you don't have to spend a lot to get quality.

Enjoy,
