Yamaha VS. Marantz and Energy VS Polk Audio

Anonymous
Hi

I am trying to decide on a mid-range home theater system approx upto $2000 CDN (for now).

Options are:
1. to buy receiver and floor speakers first and then remainder one at a time.
2. buy the whole system together (eg. energy take 5.2)
3. for recievers either the yamaha (xrv 540) or the marantz (SR6300).
4.Speakers either the polk audio (RT 30 or 70) or energy?
5.If enery then the take 5.2 or the C5 (connisseur line)?

Basically I have an average living room approx. 12' x 14' but want some thing for long run if i move into a bigger house. In the long run what would be better?

If anyone has any opinios that may help that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Energy speakers are no longer sold in my area and I've heard mixed things about them since but I do like the Polks you mentioned and they would be very nice with the Marantz receiver. Polk and Yamaha would not be as good a combo IMO as both are on the bright side of neutral. The Marantz would tame some of the slight brightness that some Polks have while the Yamaha would only make it worse. Yamaha's do best with a speaker like Paradigm or PSB which are on the mellow side. So if it was my money I'd buy the Marantz/Polk combo.
