Wiley: I'm not entirely on-board with the "digital path" receivers. If you want to try it out and the H/K DPR-1001 sounds nice to you, by all means, try it out.

Personally, I would take the H/K AVR-230 over the DPR-1001, but that's just personal preference over analogue based amplifiers (Class A, Class B) versus the digital amplifiers (Class D).

As always, what sounds good to your ears with your music/movie tastes, is what you'll be happy with in the long run.

I found it odd that the dpr-1001 seemed to have less digital inputs than the avr230. Otherwise i was consider the dpr-1001 at the time i got my avr230 (at the time the dpr-1001 was around $700). But i ruled out the dpr-1001 largely cause of the fewer digital inputs (and also there were a few reports about the dpr producing noticable hiss, but i can't back this up or anything)

Personally, I am very happy with my DPR 1001, and it has plenty of digital inputs for me (3 optical and 2 coax). I have listened very hard to the outputs of my DPR 1001 and the only hiss I have heard was directly attributable to the source, none added by the receiver.
