Why is analog conn. so much better then digital?

I've had my NAD T752 for two days now and have tried every tweak from tone controls to all the setting in the on screen display and the digital coax connection cannot touch the sound of the analog for my Yamaha CDX-710U? I know when I bought the Yamaha it was one of they're better players at the time but find it hard to believe it's 9 year old DAT is that much better then the NAD's new one.. I mean it is absolutely no contest, the analog is much much warmer and more dynamic.. MUCH!! any ideas?? Ohh yes, I read another post about CD's on DVD players through digital connection be it optical or coax skipping the first milli-sec on each track and I'm using a "CD" Player for playing CDs and it skips the first milli-sec of all tracks in Digital but not in analog..
