I have a Kenwood VR-715 receiver and a LG
(three year old) TV. I have hooked up a
Chromecast to the TV and it works great except that I only get sound through the TV speakers. I do have optical hookups on both and no HDMI on the Kenwood. How can I get
the sound to pass through to my Kenwood?

Several possible ways, though without seeing or knowing the ins and outs of your system, not all are equally possible. First, since you can get sound to the TV using, I assume, the HDMI out from the Chromecast, if your TV has line out provisions you should be able to go from the TV to the receiver. You might need to readjust the menus for the TV sound to send the signal out.

Second, you can buy a relatively inexpensive USB DAC (digital to analog converter) which would plug into the Chromecast's USB out. Most of these DAC's also have the ability to feed an analog line output signal to the Kenwood through one of its auxiliar inputs.
