I am looking to upgrade my stereo system, I currently have an older Sony four piece stereo. I have found a pair of Ma Audio 8 inch 3-way speakers that handle 300 rms each and are 8 ohm that I would like to get. The problem is finding the amp to power them. I was looking at a Pyle pro pt3300, but my buddy says Pyle is no good, I am trying to stay under 200 in price if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

$200 just isn't much for decent audio gear. You can try an Insignia receiver from Best Buy for around $129. Or a $159 Teac receiver from jr.com. Depending on how many inputs you need, Parts Express might have a basic amp that would satisfy your buddy. Ask about their "T amps".

What are you going to use as a music player? CD? MP3?

I'm going to run a single RCA from my computer. What is your opinion of Pyle? What is the cheapest good amp you would recommend to run that pair of speakers?

This amp; https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-TRIPATH-TA2020-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B003P534SW produces a clean power output which would drive the MA load. In a small to midsized room and with a reasonable listener that would be sufficient with those speakers. You know how loud you want the system to play. Parts Express sells this amp. Contact them and asks for their advice about competing components.

Sony sells a receiver for about $150 that puts out 90 watts per channel.

My guess would be the Insignia, the Teac and the Sony are all purchased, generic designs not belonging to any of those individual companies. Insignia is Best Buy's house brand so there is no actual company known as "Insignia", just products with that name. I'm more than certain they are all assembled in the same factory with the Insgnia faceplate being used on Mondays and the Teac on Wednesdays and the Sony on every third Friday. This is how many low priced audio products are produced today - and have been for decades; one factory turning out products for a dozen companies.

The difference between the Insignia and the Teac is a phono pre amp. The difference between those two and the Sony is price. Catch the Insignia on sale for about $99.

I purchased the Lepai T-amps from Amazon twice and had serious quality issues with both. Both had issues with one channel dropping in and out. I tested with two sets of speakers and cables so I know the amp was the issue. It's a shame, because the amp actually sounded quite good when it was working.

I replaced the Lepai with a 15wpc Dayton T-amp, which for ~$40 I'm reasonably happy with. I use it to power a set of Dayton B652 speakers in my office, which is a decent pairing and the whole kit was under $100.

I've heard good things about the Emotiva mini-X from a friend but haven't heard it myself. Might be worth a test.

I bought a Lepai from a dealer in China, via ebay. It works beautifully. Sound is great - provided the speaker is efficient. I guess one has to be lucky, but the Lepai is not a bad amp if it works.

Cheers.

This is more powerful class-D amp, with subwoofer amp built in, for not much more money.

No affiliation.
