Anyone know how to hook up two bare wire speakers to a 3.5 audio output from the tv?

You need an amp in between the TV and the speakers.

It can be a receiver as well - receiver is an amp with a tuner (radio).

What are the speakers you had in mind ?

Also what is your budget ?

Something like this will work.

Then you just use a cable like this to connect the TV to your amp :

Of course you need some regular speaker wire to connect the smp to the speakers. This one is a good sounding one - a cut above the regular radio shack wires :

It's for a 10 feet length - is that enough or do you need more? You can find more of the same on the sight.
