Would the Kenwood LS-880G 3 way speakers (160w RMS, 4ohm) work with this Amplifier:

.

You would do better with a different amp for those speakers or different speakers for that amp.

.

You shouldn't use four Ohm speakers with a $200 receiver.

Does Yamaha claim the amp can safely drive four Ohm speakers?

Have you bothered to read any of the various threads here regarding low impedance speakers and amplifiers to drive them?

I haven't a clue what yamaha claim, as the amp is pre-1990 i think. And yes, i have read some. The guy selling recommended the yamaha as he used it with the speakers. I was just after a second opinion if anyone had one.

Pete, if you are looking for a mamber who has tried this very combination, then you may be waiting a long time, my friend.
However, if you ever plan to match speakers/amp again in the future, then some reading on impedence matching and speaker characteristics will be time well spent, and probably avoid an expensive mistake further down the line.

Don't worry guys, i'm not gonna bother. Too risky spending £500 on 30-year-old stuff.
Went for this in the end;

Thanks for the help.
