in putting the tekton through the paces...

Boney James - Ride
Sarah Brightman - Eden
Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want
Dido - Life For Rent
The Judds - Rockin With The Rhythm
Macy Gray - The ID
Fly - Sky and Country
The Rippingtons - :Life in The Tropics
Tarja Turunen - A Winter Storm

a mix of everything from jazz, country, smooth jazz, pop, alternative, and ...

ready for this...

symphonic metal...

yup! on a 4.5 inch full range! Did it for schitts and giggles and ended up picking my jaw up off the floor. Tarjas music basically sounds like Sarah Brightman singing rock.

I was also shocked at the fact that these sound more realistic at lower levels than my kef do. The eyes do not believe the ears. And I think my downstairs neighbor heard it before I ran to grab the volume... not used to have speakers this efficient.

These CERTAINLY are not wimpy IMHO

obviously they are not a pair of klipsch, or even my iQ3, but in my 15X17 space, they are more than adequate.

keep in mind that I rarely (if ever) listen loudly.... but usually at a moderate level.

It's a home office, no work gets done there. As good as the main rig is I'm sure I could tear myself away from the office.

Ok guys,

I see that I've got about 2 years of catching up to do on this thread. I don't remember if Jan, Nuck, Art or someone else started this one?

So, how about giving me the 2 year Reader's Digest version. You know 40,000,000 albums narrowed down to maybe 10 or 12? LOL

Nice. I recently allowed myself to bring in my Ipod touch to work. Volume kept down very low for my ears only. The device is amazing. Working on my PC at work in the shadow of my collection is priceless. It makes a difference.

Sting - Symphonicities

Wonderful representation of Sting's vocals, orchestral, but jazz influences as well. I had not heard some of the original material before. The orchestra's expanded instruments (as compared to the instruments used with the original recordings) allow for more depth to some of the songs like "I Hung My Head" for example. Still, Sting's vocals are the centerpiece of this album.

"We Work The Black Seam" is a wonderful balance of Sting's extremely strong vocals with a very present and well paced musical accompaniment.

The last song "The Pirate's Bride" is a perfect end to one of the best CDs I purchased in quite some time.

Jo Lowry's vocals lent a nice backdrop, especially on the aforementioned last cut.

Awful album..except for 'unchained' I played it twice at low volume and did some setup stuff, then hit 'play' with the 1.2KW subs running.

WOW Art...yesterday:

Hanson Conducts Hanson
Howard Hanson
Symphony No. 1 "Nordic"
Symphony No. 2 "Romantic"
Eastman-Rochester Orchestra
Eastman School of Music Chorus
Mercury Living Presence

The addition of Hanson's "Song of Democracy" on this disc is welcome. Based on a poem by Walt Whitman written in comemoration of a public school opening in Camden N.J., 1874.

And these I see, these sparkling eyes,
These stores of mystic meaning, these young lives,
Building, equipping like a fleet of ships, immortal ships,
Soon to sail out over the measureless seas,
On the soul's voyage.

This is a landmark recording, but I've always felt it could benefit from a little more concert hall reverberation.
