Hi,
I am a first poster and I honestly have no idea about hifi am a pc enthusiast so please bear with me if you can.
I have an old set of 6.1 pc speakers, creative soundworks rated at 570w (RMS) and 98db SNR. The built in amp broke; fuse explodes when I replace it. Frankly i dont care about the 6th channel so any 5.1 will do. The weird thing is that the subwoofer (150w) has 2 sets of 2 channel cables coming out of it no idea why... I was very satisfied with the volume of the speakers; the quality was decent too. Currently I have connected the sub and speakers to an old creative 5.1 amp which normally powers 70w speakers... I only connected one of the two cables of the sub and it works (sort of...)The volume is ok but the quality of the sound not so much... I tried looking for surround amplifiers but they are upwards of 300 quid. I can spend at most 100 (the cheaper the better). I also dont need any kind of digital encoding as i have three analoque outputs so the decoding is done by my pc.
Sorry for the long post.
