I recently received an onkyo tx-sv 525 a/v receiver. I understand it's more designed for home theater scenarios but since it was free i figured i'd take it and use it as a stereo. Unfortunately I do not have speakers for it. Basically a friend bought a new receiver and just gave me the old one. Whats a decent pair of speakers for around $300 that would sound good with this receiver?

Any fans of the small NHT?

The small one will go 300 the pair, free shipping and I guess someone will want sales tax.......
Than you'd be into some stands.....

What size is the listening space, and can you bring the speakers out into the room, space wise?
Is the speaker location dictated by space/compromise?

The room is actually just an empty storage space in a barn, me and a couple buddies just hang out and throw parties in it. it's an all wood barn, dont know how much affect that can actually have and its about 40X40X25. we listen to pretty much anything but a mojority is spread out between some rap, techno, and rock.

Man, that's a big space. You're gonna need more than a couple of Paradigm Titans, lol. Maybe some PA speakers?

If you guys are just using it to crank tunes while partying in the barn the speakers and sub will be fine.

Any CV speaker rated above 95Db should do. They play loud.

What JBL speakers play really loud too?
