Some way-too-loud music.

Metal

On the bedroom system - I push these speakers so hard every day, yet they still work. Sometimes I even play square waves at full amplifier power at low frequencies (sounds cool). I would think that it would smash the coil on the back, but instead they must be designed so the suspension stops it.

Maria Muldaur - Meet Me Where They Play The Blues
This recording was meant to include Charles Brown with tracks specially chosen for the occassion. Unfortunately, Charles Brown fell ill so, when they heard he was feeling a little better, they took the studio to him and she recorded 'Gee baby, ain't I good to you' with the syrupy voiced old veteran.

It was to be his last recording. And the album is a real tribute, she excells on this one.

A place that i have been working at uses PA music as a call, then check the big board to see where you are needed.
Maint. is "Help", so I have heard the first 25 seconds of the song incessantly, ad nauseum and to near disgust(cause it was for me).
I finished today and pulled into rush hour.
You guess the first song on the radio.

.

Yesterday I listened to ...

Eight hours of thunderstorms and rain followed by a night of thunderstorms and rain.

And an afternoon/evening of direct to disc recordings.

There was Sister Rossetta Tharpe, Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Merle Travis, Arthur Pryor's Band, Les Paul and Mary Ford, King Ganam, Eddy Arnold, Sophie Tucker, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Gene Krupa, Louis Prima, Tommy Dorsey, Peggy Lee, The Mills Brothers, The Inkspots, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman and others.

Great fun and good exercise every 2'38".

All on their original hi-rez 78's.

Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.

(And to those who have contributed to the collection, MW and Nuck, many thanks.)

Bob Marley - Legend (Remastered CD)
It gets better everytime I listen to it, which has been a lot lately.

Pearl Jam - Ten, Vs, and Vitalogy.

Anyone heard the new Ten? Worth the money? Its got some new songs, one of which I've heard, and finally - a DVD of their MTV Unplugged performance. That was a great one. Not sure the new songs and DVD are worth almost $40 though.

Mike, I'll see your Taj Mahal "Maestro" and raise it to "Senor Blues".

M 4.5
S 4.85

Folks, light a candle, darken the room, carefulfully lead your partner carefully over the wires to a shared sofa positioned in the sweet spot, pour a slightly chilled bottle of fine red, play the title track and you should hit a home run. If not, then at least you get to listen to some great music played by some great musos. This album is one of his best recordings sq wise imo.

BTW- if Taj seems too loud, just turn up the volume a notch or two and he'll sound even better :-)

Boz Scaggs - Some Change.

Having just seen Bruce Hornsby in concert in Halifax last weekend (absolutely wicked!), I've been revisiting all of my BH tunes, including Camp Meeting with Christian McBride and Jack Dejohnette. This is a little off the beaten track, but Hornsby is constantly exploring new territory, whether it's Bluegrass with Ricky Skaggs, or sitting in with the Grateful Dead. His curiosity is obvious in this disk, and he teams with two wonderful musicians who compliment each other and allow the music to just happen. This is a great collection of original material, along with some jazz classics viewed through a new lens.

Keith Urban - Defying Gravity
CD

M - 4.75
S - 4.75

Listening to it consecutively as I know by tomorrow this will be in the truck CD player where Marsh will listen to it non-stop for the next week plus. She said she liked him so I bought her his Greatest Hits CD a few months ago. This one I bought to see how much I like his music. I really do. Now I do not mind so much putting out Stub Hub prices for 19th row center main floor for his upcoming show here in Dallas. (Also one of the reasons I only go to one concert a year.)

Hey, she saw EC last year with me, I told her it was an anniversary gift for her. This is make up for that one, only the surprise for her will be that I will be enjoying the concert very much too.

P.S. Go audition one of the cuts from this CD on You-Tube, you may end up with this disc too!

I went to see Dire Straits many years ago - fifth row floor seats - live in concert at Reunion Arena, a miserable venue for music if ever there was one. The sound of the band is still ringing in the rafters today. Everyone was on their feet from the first note so between the cowboy hats and the big D hair on the women I never actually got to "see" Dire Straits.

Saw Dire Straits three times. A friend was a radio station promotions manager and he got us into one of the after concert parties. Met all the band and talked to Mark Knopfler for about a half hour. I recall him saying his next gig was producing a Bob Dylan album. A very down to earth nice bloke.

At the last concert we took our son who was about 14 at the time. He sat there with the biggest grin on his face we'd ever seen.

Like EC, Knopfler makes it look so easy.
