I have system listed below which pleases me for occasional home theatre 5.1 but wish to get better amp/speakers for enjoying 2 channel music. The higher quality flac files sound better through the Squeezebox than the Universal player even with SACDs. This has me looking to upgrade with around $10,000 New Zealand.
Any comment appreciated....

Terry, with 10k to spend, I would not be looking to net strangers(no matter how nice) for advice.
You should be at a trusted dealers store, asking questions and listening to options with music that you know and love.
Don't rush. Listen to complete systems.

Nuck's right. I wish I had 10k to spend on a 2 channel system! You need to get out there and listen to stuff and (hopefully) find a dealer that will let you bring stuff home to listen in your own living room.

My dealer, who I've developed a rapport with, will let me bring pretty much anything home for the weekend (with the obligatory credit card #, of course).

Hostile - Aussies - never!
Lol!

Most Kiwis live in Aus anyway, so we may as well have their country.

Sorry T.A. just kidding.

The other thing is - with import duties and the big whack distributors add on we pay much more than you guys after the conversion. The price of audio sucks here - which is why I have used Ebay at times.

you might look into a DAC and an associated software suite?

Hi Nuck I heard the Linn reference system with the Klimax DS - this impressed me but the price did not! I listened to the Linn Sneaky which is a musical dac with 7 second buffer. I am thinking this as a front end or maybe a Squeezebox into a better dac which would allow just a power amp and speakers

If it is purely digitsl, then yes, a better dac with connectivity and control would do nicely.

The Dacmagic from Cambridge is a very interesting item.
