Are you starting a Bryston collection?

What's the talley so far?

2 Power Pac 120
2 2B-LP
1 3B

Not too shabby. How about a pre and their DAC?

Ya Stu, that's the tally (the 2B are the legacy series, not the LP, though).

I'm a Bryston super-freak. I'd like to get a Bryston pre too, but I'm outta money.

Actually guys I got it for a really, really good price. I was ready to spend A LOT more on a 2 channel amp, but this came available - and right in my own neighbourhood.

So I'm ahead of the game. At least that's what I tell myself.

oh did he ever get it for a good price. Did he have a smoke after you were done with him David? LOL!!! jokes. You got that thing for super cheap.

You hook it up yet? Man you are in dyer need of a Bryston pre amp now. I would be selling an amp for the pre. Just MO David. That 3b can't be heard fully behind CA or Rotel.

LOL... I'm on it man. Gotta pay CRA their pound of flesh first.

Yup, it's hooked up. I was actually surprised by the heft of the thing. It feels very, very solid.

As you know, I was running my RS6's recently directly out of my CA. Putting the MA's back on a steady diet of Bryston made them very happy.

Next immediate step is to upgrade the cables. I'm really not fond of the Audioquest cables.

I'd definitely like to check out Bel Canto sometime in the future - especially the monoblocks. I heard them before at my dealers and I was pretty impressed.

I'm interested in trying out as much different stuff as possible, although lately I've obviously been on a Bryston spree.

I also wouldn't mind checking a pair of the Channel Islands monos. Anyone ever heard those?

Channel Islands? Sounds interesting.

David, your 3b should weigh up around 40 pounds. Built like a brick crapper.

Here's some info on them:

Class D.. from what I've read, they're giant killers.

Yup, the 3B was heavy man. Now I know why those b@stards come with handles.

I see an 8B up for sale on CAM. Had I not just purchased the eVo, I may have considered it.

Great Dave! I'm happy for ya! All the best with the 3B. We'll need to hear the diffence it makes on those Sttafs. I assume that's where it's going - straight to the 2-channel? Cheers!

Actually George, the 3B is on my HT (which I quite often listen to music with too) system now right now. I really, really like the monoblocks on my 2 channel and will probably keep it that way for the time being.

That being said, I'm pretty happy with the sound of the 3B when listening to tunes.

Hey Dave, for music how would you compare your two main setups, the 3B/RS6 vs Momoblocks/Sttafs. Heavy rock and the like probably kicks on the Ma setup now. Any thoughts on what tunes sound better on either one? How much have the MA's been enhanced? Is it day and night?
How old is your 3B - you buy it off CAM?

George- dont forget the Pre amps. lol. Its CA/3b/RS6 and Rotel/Rotel/Totem. Different rooms too which plays a big roll.

Two kick a $ $ systems none the less though.

When I put the Bryston pre on the 3b instead of the NAD T763, it was night and day better IMO. THe sound opened right up, as if there wasn't a piece of electronic in front of the 3b anymore. And the Pace and speed of the music was considerably faster. That said, NAD/Bryston go together like Pizza and peanut butter.lol.

As it stands now Nick, the 2 channel system is Rotel pre with the Bryston Power Pacs. It kicks some serious @ss. Obviously the weak link in the system now is the pre.

George, the 3B is over 20 years old. It's from the original line (the Legacy series). It's built like a tank and weighs a ton. It was like night day driving the MA's over the CA receiver for sure.

David- I know they are in two different rooms, but roughly, what sonic differences to you find between the Totem and MA's?

Big difference Nick. The Totems have more finesse, better imaging (the literally disappear in the room) and are a little more neutral sounding.

The MA's have more attack, more edge and little more bottom end slam.

Depending on my mood and the music type, the MA's are a little more fun to listen too, while the Totems are more engaging.

Hi guys. Thanks for the welcome. As for Bryston gear, I have these around here split between 2 small systems:

Bryston 3B Pro (Legacy)
Bryston 3B (Legacy)
Bryston 1B Pre-amp
Bryston .5B Pre-amp
Bryston Amp Cooling Fan

Cool stuff Jason. I too have a 3B with a .5b pre amp, sourced by a Rega Apollo. Is your .5 the b with the phono? What are the differences between it and your 1.0?

Yup, corrected. 1B and .5B pre-amps. The only difference that I can tell is that the 1B has 2 Phono inputs and 2 Main Out. Perhaps an additional switched plug on the rear to boot.

Jason, Nick, Dave you've all got me in envy but it has not been my time yet. I was looking at that 18yr old 4B and now I'm more confused. Thinking 3B ST, perhaps. I guess that's what it's all about. Wouldn't a integrated SST be nice.

Hi George. I think the envy flows full-circle. I was checking out some of the member's profiles on here, and there are some seriously nice systems! Wow!

Has anyone ever had a Bryston 270/370/470? I'm just curious as to what these even look like?

They look like Classe amps, but are very light and have white paint on the front.
OK, I am just joking here.

Very nice. The 2B and 3B look almost identical to mine, except in this photo the lettering on the Bryston logo seems to be solid instead of the typical outline.

You've got some sweet stuff there Dave. It's heritage but it still kicks butt and hauls a...ss.
With the stuff we are doing around the house now and other expenses my budget is all but gone. I've got $200 bucks kicking around but will probably use it for my music collection. Lot's of stuff in the list on the other thread.
Guys, keep the pictures coming. Why don't we do all the years of Bryston here?

Thanks for the link George. Now if I could only find a couple of these old-skool amps to add to the collection. They'd make a nice addition.

Stu, good pic of the Bryston pieces!
