i've got a pair of JBL L890's - 250w continuous @ 8 ohms.

currently i'm considering these two options to power it

1. Yamaha P2500S professional power amp with a nad T163 surround sound pre amp

advantages of this is that i already own the yamaha and getting a good deal on the t163 - its a demo. also gives me the option of converting to surround sound

2. nad c372

my main focus is stereo music. has anyone tried a similar setup to option 1 and any comments

I took a wrong turn a number of years ago, when I thought I could build a good HT system that would also be very good at 2 channel music, since that also is my main focus. In the price I could afford, I couldn't, and I'm still working my way back to a good music system.

I only say this to caution, that if your main love is music listening, trying to cover off HT or "surround sound" at the same time can be perilous. Unless you have deep pockets...which I don't.

I haven't listened to any of the above gear so I won't speculate on "best", but lots of folks here are very familiar so perhaps they'll wade in with some advice.
