Trying to replace the belt on a Pioneer PL12-D and unable to remove the platter from the base. Loosening the stablizer screws did not help. Is there a latch or another screw somewhere that releases the platter?

.

The platter has probably become stuck through oxidation of the surfaces. Try a few drops of a light penetrating oil or liquid graphite on the spindle and let it sit for 24 hours before applying any more pressure. Tap the spindle with the handle of a screwdriver before trying to lift it off.

If there'a any rubber in the area, don't use WD-40. It'll melt it.

I don't remember any sort of "C" clip on the Pioneer but you can check. It will be around the main spindle if it exists.

If the platter has no clip, head over to the Audio Karma forum and ask in the Pioneer vintage section for assistance.

Thanks Jan and Stu for responding,
No clip or release clamp that I can find. I'll check on the other site.

White Flag:
Another poster suggested placing a washer over the tip of the spindle for the thumb to press down on while the fingertips lift up. Excellent idea, alas to no avail. I'm giving up on this one and will part out what I can.
Thanks to all who responded to my plea.
