i have an 8ohm amp and i was wondering if it would be compatible with a 4ohm subwoofer? or would this be to much of a power draw on my amp?
thanks

.

It depends on the speaker and the amp. If you're only using the amp to drive a subwoofer, then you might get away with it. There are no "8 Ohm" amplifiers. There are amplifiers that cannot tolerate an impedance load much lower than eight ohms and there are amplifiers that have the current availability to drive lower impedance loads. Within reason any amplifier can drive higher impedance loads though power will typically decrease as the impedance rises. (Place "Ohm's Law" into a search engine.) If the amplifier's manufacturer has specifically stated not to use anything lower than an eight Ohm load with this amplifier, then I would not risk damaging the amp. Buy what you need rather than blowing up what you have.
