I just purchased a Sony STR-DE885 5.1 receiver and was wondering about the audio from my Directv unit. I have a dvd, ps2, vcr, and dtv hooked up to the receiver. DVD is via the digital coax, ps2 is connected to the optical, vcr through rca, and my directv unit is also through rca (the unit doesn't have optical). The only sound option I get from the auto decoding on the receiver is R and L. I tried manually putting it on DTS, or Dolby, but it's not working. My question is: Does directv use dolby or dts?

It does, however if you dont use an optical cable or coaxial you are not going to be able to get dts or dd.
