BASIC cable question/B+W 683

I was recently gifted a pair of 683's along with a Yamaha receiver. After buying some cabling with standard banana plug endings, I was able to attach the plugs to the amp but not the speakers. The speaker attachments seem too short and too wide for the banana plugs. Is the only way to attach via standard speaker wire, or am I missing something with the banana connectors?

Thanks, obviously a beginner level question ..

Why can't you connect with bare wire?

I can. But since I already purchased the cable with the banana ends, it'd be nice to use it -- especially if it was just me missing something about the speaker interface ..

Should be able to cut the banana ends off at the speaker end and cut the outer layer of the speaker wire away and then attach them to the speakers.

Jeff

Cut nothing off. Just remove the little plastic covers on the ends of the terminals. Those round black and red green plastic bits staring you in the face are just slip-fit items to cover the 4mm banana sockets...

Regards,
Frank.
