i try to stay away from this question. i know it is what everyone wants to know but lets just say i want an amp that can put out about 400 wats. honestly i have thought about getting a soundsplinter rl-i but for the time being i just might try using a type r or a sd2.5 even though they are car audio subwoofers, mainly because i have both of them. mainly i want know which amp, because i know how the subs work, but i have no idea about the home audio amps and how they work.

I like my velodyne
VELODYNE DPS-12 12" HOME AUDIO SUBWOOFER DPS12

Bought off ebay for $395.00- not that expensive and i think it does a good job for the money.

Kyle,

Power is nought without good implementation. Some of the best domestic relatively inexpensive subs, such as REL, Velodyne and M&K, do the trick with 'just' 150 or 200 watt amplifiers. It's because they're designed correctly. You may eb lucky and get good results with the units you suggest, but you're more likely not to just because of the materials, enclosure you'll build, etc.

Regards,
Frank.

A 12" sub for a dorm room seems like a bit of overkill, doesn't it?

HSU makes the STF-1 and should be on any short list of 'dorm room' contenders.

stf-1 is 299, plus tax+delivery.
stf-2 is 349, plus tax+delivery.
for a 2000ft3 dorm room, either is plenty.
