Can SACD be downloaded to a PC as an MP3?

I know my Denon DVD player plays SACD so want to benefit from running it through my AV amp and surround sound. However, I load all my CDs onto my PC and MP3 player. Before investing in SACD I would be grateful if one of you in the know could advise if I can download the music from an SACD onto my PC.

Much obliged.

Most SACD's are hybrid - that is they have a normal cd layer. Non hybrid SACD's cannot be copied.

That's right. But then you do not need an SACD player, only a hybrid SACD/CD disc. SACD/DSD is strongly copy-protected and cannot be copied.

Cheers, M.R.

Sorry, Mark, M.R. and I have been out of contact for a while.

There is a way around, which is to connect the analogue output from an SACD player to an ADC, or computer analogue input, and digitise the signal. But you cannot "rip" SACD files directly.
