Hi, This Cerwin-Vega SW12-B is a passive unit. I would appreciate if anyone has info on hooking it up and specs, or where I can find such. Thanks, Herb

A passive subwoofer requires a separate amp. The low level output (RCA output jack) of a receiver's subwoofer out will not be able to drive a passive sub.

You will need an amp between the sub/LFE output of your receiver and the passive sub.

Thanks Berny, That's a good rule of thumb for more complete control of LFE, not needed in my case since I'm more interested in audio(finally live in a house where I can use a 32ft note). I could use bi-amping, but have enough gear for my purposes. The passive sub-woofer, I believe(stop me if I'm wrong), is just that: passive. In this case, as I've found out(more below), the sub acts as any woofer with a high pass filter: cutting out low-mid bass at 100hz it passes to a couple of 35yr old Jensen Tri-ettes that are a bit soft in the bottom. I do have multi-speaker outputs on my receiver(Marantz RS3557 another oldie, pre Dolbie Pro). I got spec/info from the good folks at www.cerwin-vega.com. For those curious: 12" dual voice-coil(RW-12D); 125watts/coil; freq. 29-100hz; sensitivity 92db; 8ohms/coil; xover 100hz w/hi-pass outputs; 48lbs; dims approx 13x25x16; circa 1986; $320. Just paid $10. Also just read about "rotating" subwoofer going below 1hz. Some fun.

Thanks Nuck, I might have missed something in my description. No LFE out on my rec. C-V's assistance was as complete as I needed it to be. What did you have in mind? I did the hookup and it worked as expected, nice tight bass at low volume. I'm not unfamiliar with bi-amping from back in mono days, stopped messing around when I reached good stereo sound later on. Then I turned my back for thirty years. When I turned around again...WOW! Thanks all, Herb
