I just bought me a pair of polk monitor 50 floorstanders. I currently have a Yamaha Htr-5740 receiver. I am curious as to how much I would have to spend in order to really get some noticeable sound difference when getting a newer receiver. Is the one I have now fine enough? If anyone can recommend any good receivers let me know. Thank you very much.

I was looking at stuff like the Yamaha RX-V1600 and the RX-V1600 Yamaha. What effect will these have on my music and overall sound. I do not have a HDTV by the way and not using any multizone settings. I just watch really good sound!!!

Tommy...relax.
Your receiver will deliver quite good sound with your speakers.

If, in the future, you want to find better sound(as do we all), you will have time.
Enjoy your set-up, add a sub, and enjoy!.

Tommy, your biggest improvement will come from moving from the generic DVD players many people use as CD players to a quality CD player. Many deals on the internet for used ones.

What are your other sources and connections?
