Hi -

When watching recorded TV/movies (tivo) and a loud sound comes through (i.e. car crashing, explosion, etc), my Onkyo Tx-sr501 automatically shuts off into standby mode. Its like it is getting overloaded or something.

Any configuration tips to prevent this from happening (it is really annoying and disruptive)?

Turn the volume down a few notches and see what happens. What kind of speakers do you have out of curiousity? They may present too difficult a load for your receiver.

At volume 35 and below, its fine and it seems to only happen when watching something recording in Dolby Surround Sound (ie every movie)

Speakers are Cambridge Soundworks:
Front Newton M80s
Rear Newton S200s
Center MC150

Thoughts?

How are the speaker leads connected? Are you bi-wiring the M80s?
