I am slowly, trying to build a decent home theater. Even as I save and make purchases I probably will never have enough cash to acquire the system of my choosing (too many expensive hobbies). However, my B-Day is coming up so I have a little bit of cash and I want a sub to go with my little Hk AVR140 and Bose bookshelf 210's. I'm sure that you will recommend selling the 210's and I plan on it in good time, but for now I want a sub. Will my 140 handle the HSU-STF-1? I think the HSU would be a perfect size sub for my tiny living room.

The STF-1 is a powered sub and is independent of your receiver except for the LFE signals.

Should be perfect for your needs.

A very competant unit, much bigger than it looks.
Good value, it will extend to further ventures down the line! Copy to your wife or SO. Future investment to be enjoyed now.

Another nice 8-inch sub is the Mirage S8, which vanns.com and amazon.com sometimes have for as little as $200 shipped.

There is no such thing as a nice 8" sub.

Go for it, Mark. The STF-1 is a superb little sub.

BTW, when you do plan to replace your Bose bookshelfs, I highly recommend you buy all three front speakers at the same time, regardless of what speaker brand you choose. Get the speakers that are voice matched across the front and building your HT system will go a lot easier.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone! This site is great. I will stay tuned.

And Hawk, thanks for the advice on replacing my fronts.
