6 ohm receiver

I am looking at buying a receiver that is rated at 120watts x 5 at 6ohms. I don't know anything about ohms. What do you think the power rating is at 8 ohms? If your running it at 6 ohms, does the amp run hotter? Is it more efficiant at 6 or 8 ohms?

Any receiver rated to a minimum of 4 ohm will drive your speakers fine. Even if the wattage is rated at 8 ohms, you should have no problem. The wattage is typically higher at lower impedence. The receiver will get hotter but that should not cause any damage. Most 8 ohm speakers have a dip in their impedence curve bellow resonance and near DC (0Hz), sometimes as low as 3 ohms.

Hope this helps.
