I purchased an onkyo sr601 and the jbl scs136 together for $110.00 on ebay. The jbl's are nice, but something missing. I would like to know the best matches for $600.00. Thanks
John, in all honesty, I have never cared for either of the brands or models you listed. Go back to ebay and spend 600 for a good h/k or integra with some polks or something else.
I'm not a fan of the Onkyo 601 either but for $110 including the JBL speakers I have to say that's not a bad deal.
My rec would be the Athena AS-B1.2s and AS-C1.2 from audioadvisor.com --- their brightness should hopefully liven up the Onkyo's rather hollow sound, plus with the savings (2 pairs of the B1s and one C1 will run about $380) you can get a subwoofer (say the Athena AS-P4000 at $150 or AS-P6000 at $250) which would definitely liven things up. If this is mainly an HT system then the 601 will be ok.
