I cant imagine spearing a cable can damage the sub unless you powered it on with the damaged cable. You could use this opportunity to upgrade to a better subwoofer. Here are some alternatives:

Dayton 10", $124, partsexpress.com
Athena AS P4000, $150, amazon.com
Onix X-sub, $199, av123.com
Mirage S8, $199, vanns.com

You might want to use the maximum allowable crossover setting.

It seems more likely to have damaged the source, possibly a fuse?

I have done this myself, Garry. Bank down a tack rail onto a pre-cable. The equipment did live, though.
Try the sub on another source?
