anyone have any listening experience with this studio monitor ?????

looks similar in size to the dynaudio focus 140 with probably the same
drive units and a less fancy cabinet- no veneer (but probably just as sturdy)

the cost though is about half that of the focus 140

just wondering if this is a viable alternative as my listening distance is
only going to be about 8 to 9 feet at most and maybe a little closer
in the future (small living room - big furniture)

thanks for any help or replies

Hi,

I don't think the drivers are the same. Just eyeballing the photos of the BM5 the tweeter looks like a lesser unit than the focus' Esotec tweeter.

But you do make a valid point, in that I have noticed a trend where pro-audio gear seems to cheaper than similarly specced domestic gear. Seems like dealer margins are fatter in the domestic arena, maybe cos us domestic schmoe's need more dealer support and backup!!!

But to compare the BM5, with the Focus 140 is not really comparing like with like. I think the Focus 140 is better specced in terms of its drivers, and its trapezeoid shape cabinet (and I think it is rear ported also).

ciao

the new redesigned bm 5p is rear ported

and the tweeter may look different but from what i have read
there is a plastic guard covering the tweeter

i think it is the same tweeter with just a slight cosmetic
difference
