Ok..so this question has likely been asked, but I have $500 or under spend on a HT receiver. I am yet to buy speakers, but am hooking up system in my new Panny 42" Plasma with HDMI. Looking for opinions on best receiver to buy. Mid-Small room. Any other info needed from me? I am a newbie to this, so jsut looking for idseas and opinions. Thanks.

ohhh...ideas on speakers for another $500-$800 would be appreciated as well. Or...maybe what I can get Speakers+Receiver for under $1k??? Thanks everyone, much appreciated. This is my first setup over a $250 packaged crap system.

I am a total newb myself.
But from what I've been reading so far, you may want to adjust your receiver to speaker ratio if your budget is $1k.
I love my new Harmon Kardon 635 that I got for around $500. But you may be better off getting a less expensive receiver and allowing yourself more money for speakers. I am sure someone with more expertise will chime in and give more detailed advice.
