If you are talking 2k with connects, out the door, bb and cc have ok stuff.
HT is pretty easy, really.
An athena setup is pretty good, but you might have to barter for a good receiver.

This is why you really should not post as anonymous if you want some help. Maybe you are just wasting time?

If I were to look at a HT system for the budget you are on I would check out some of the following. Receivers: Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, Harmon/Kardon. Speakers: Polk Audio, Infinity, BIC, Bose?? Also, use nothing smaller than a 16 guage speaker wire to set up speakers. Just a few suggestions. (always spend more money on your speakers)

Anonymous,

In the audio world, a $2000.00 budget is small but in the Home Theater world it is VERY small. However, you can make a few smart moves to maximize the buying power of your budget.

SUGGESTION #1 - Buy small speakers with GREAT drivers.

Speakers contain 3 main components: 1) Drivers, 2) Electronics, and 3) Cabinets. Nearly a full one-half of the cost of making a speaker goes to the cabinet, the rest goes to the drivers and electronics. Small speakers with excellent drivers & electronics will out-perform most large speakers at the same price point.

SUGGESTION #2 - Spend more on speakers than on the A/V Receiver.

As has been said many times on this forum, the speakers make the system. NOTHING will improve a sound system more than good speakers.

SUGGESTION #3 - Find an AVR with the power and features that are important to you.

There are many great AVRs out there that don't have THX, THX Select, or THX Ultra 2 certification. Manufacturers must pay fees to license these certifications, which drives up the price of their AVRs. Some manufacturers refuse to play the THX game, and instead allow their AVRs to stand on their own merits (the specs). There are many audiophile quality pre/pro/tuners on the market that do not have THX certifications.

RBH Sound makes some of the best drivers on the planet. Check out the three speaker systems below.
