hi. i am an audiophile. i am crazy about music. it is my first day on this site. i have a pair of grand piano home sonus fabers, they sound great they are hooked to denon avr 5805 with monster m 2.2 cable
while setting my home theater , the custom installer suggested to use 4 channels of the receiver(each is 170 w rms) to bi amp the speakers. the speakers are rated at max of 250. he says it will sound better, i am worried i will blow up the speakers. can anybody help me. thanks

You're more likely to blow up your speakers with a weedy amp than one that's "too powerful". A weedy amp will distort and try to make a speaker do things it's not designed to do. A powerful amp will simply drive it as far as it will go. Now, if it tries to go too far, the main drive units will 'pop' when they hit their end-stops, but you're less likely to break them this way.

regards,
Frank.

ihab, as an 'audiophile', with a 170w receiver, do tell your equipment.

I think he meant "audiophile" in a totally different context. In this case - one who likes to listen to audio, not necessarily a connoiseur.

I really don't like that word audio-phile...sounds like some perv who gives the "bad touch" to stereo equipment

I dunno...proper audiophyles don't expose themselves, except to their dealers.

Regular audiophiles are want to wander.

ihab,
I believe he was being jovial:-)
No insult intended, if there was one you'll see it...he has not earned the rank of subtle artist yet.

He is complimenting your gear.

Clik on the link I provided down below.

Another question

I am between setting a 9.1 and a 7.1 is it really worth it.
I want to do 7.1 for movies, and for music i want both a 2.1 with the sonus and a 9.1 with sonus and 7 B & w speakers.
I just want to get the most out of my gear since i have it. some cds are better in the 2 channel mode , others in multichannel. the avr 5805, i think has no 5 channel audio mode but it has all channel audio, so that is why the 9.1. I hope the audessey eq system will set all 9 speakers optimally.

let me know what you think.
thanks

Its worth is totally up to you. Why not experiment with your gear and decide which setting you like best? No one can really tell what is worth what.
