Martin,

You will need a 5.1 receiver or pre/amp combination to feed your DvD and cable/satellite signals.

A few questions for us to better help you out:

How much do you want to spend for receiver and speakers?

How large is your room?

How much time do you plan to spend listening to music on the system, do you prefer multi-channel or stereo mode, and what is your music preferences?

Martin,

I'm not too famaliar with Great Britian market, but at that price range, your best bet would be a Home Theater In a Box (HTIBs) option.

I recommend you look into the following systems and see which one you would like the best:

Panasonic SC-HT930
Panasonic SC-HT700
Sony DAV-FX10
JVC TH-C6
Onkyo HT S580
Yamaha YHT-160
Pioneer HTP-3600

All should do pretty well as 5.1 HT setup for you.

Happy shopping!

Eld.
