I'm hearing some scratchy distortion on higher pitched sounds on my TT. Higher range Al Green/Marvin Gaye notes, and 'S's in speech. Other ranges seem to be pretty clear. I thought this was my stylus/cartridge, but that's been replaced, and the problem still seems to be there. Any ideas?
I'm using an Ortofon OM 5E cartridge on a Denon DP-37F TT.
Recheck alignment, tracking force and anti skate. Clean the stylus and the records.
The OM-5 is the lowest compliance stylus assembly available for the OM series cartridges. Low compliance means it does not track or, most especially, trace as well as the higher priced cartridges.
