Ok, so Right now I have a JBL sub, with a HK AVR 235 receiver and some cheap Samsung speakers. I am looking to replace the Samsungs slowly over the next few years. I figured that I should start with the center channel since it is most important. I can get a Polk CS2 center for $200 new. I am looking to spend under $300. IS this going to be my best buy? If not, what would be?

There really is no right or wrong here, and I am going to say even more so for $200. You can get some god aweful speakers for $200, or you can get some that are quite listenable. But there will always be someone somewhere who will think the most aweful sounding speakers sound good.

Go listen to them and ask "could I live with that?"

for $200 I'd look at the CSi3...better sounding speaker in my opinion...but dean offers good advice...does it sound good to you? and do you mind spending $200 for that sound?

Ben,

In your shoes I'd fork out the extra $100 for the Ascend 340 center channel. Pure listening pleasure for your ears.
