i've never heard of sonodyne speakers, but wharfdale usually gets good "bang for the buck" reviews.

speaking of reviews, look those brands up on ecoustics editorial reviews link. (the 1st one on the black bar at the top of the page.)

some other "bang for the buck" brands you might want to look into are:
value speaker brands:
canadian
axiom
paradigm
psb
energy
mirage
..........................................
aperion
NHT
epos
wharfdale
infinity
polk
boston acoustics
cambridge sound works
magnepan
ascend
definative technology
pinnacle

Wharfdale Diamond 9.6 $800 tower gets a rave

and stereophile really liked the $320 epos els-3 and rated it over speakers 3 times the price.

personally, i'm scrapping my onkyo/NHT superzero system for a panasonic (class-d)/magnepan system. maggies are great bargains, but require amps with at least 100wpc and that can handle 4 ohms without blowing up.

check this review out:

if this sounds interesting, then you'll need either a panasonic sa-xr series reciever or NAD which uses high current designs.

a maggie/panny synergy review

Surprisingly and astonishingly our very own 'Sonodyne' has been crafting some superb speakers and amplifiers these days. Their latest 'Sonus 2605' series is a stunning piece of craftsmanship and is also a marvel to behold. It rivals JBL, Wharfdale and dare I say even beats it and is available for half the price of their ranges in similar categories.

I purchased the exquisite Sonodyne 'Sonus' 2605 speakers (pine wood finish) 6 months ago and have been on cloud 9 ever since. The separation of sound is mind-boggling.

The wonderful surprise is that the 'sonus' 3 way speakers ( with gold plated binding terminals) will not cost you the earth. Rs 22,000.

i'm NOT scrapping my superzeros now. i like my panasonic so much now that i can live with my speakers as-is because they're so much more detailed and natural now.

i wouldn't try to use maggies on a yamaha though. most japanese recievers don't like 4 ohm loads.
