I use the Altec Lansing ATP3 system (2.1) and it's decent. It won't shake the walls or amaze you with detail, but the down firing drivers in each speaker give you a sense of spatiality, somewhat. They're also pretty small, which is nice. They are just a tad over your budget, but if you shop around you might find them for that.
