Potential for damage from cable TV sound

I recently purchased new speakers for my home theater setup and I noticed that sometimes when I watch HDTV channels on my cable box, the sound transmission has occasional glitches- sound suddenly blinks on and off, background "pops", static, and the like. I am fairly certain the real problem is with the broadcast, as it only happens on certain HD channels and when I select the standard-format version of the same channel, the glitches don't happen. I'm assuming that the cable company is still working out bugs in their HD broadcast and that (hopefully) they will eventually get their act together. But what concerns me is that I now have some very nice expensive speakers and I worry that these glitches could be damaging my speakers. Am I being overly paranoid or is this a real risk?
