Advice on Receiver under $300

I am new to the world of audiophile and have previously owned stereo systems and very unfamiliar with the HiFi manufactures. I mostly listen to music and would buy a receiver and a pair of speakers for now and upgrade to surround in 2 years or more.

However I want to make sure that I have the right receiver and also good front speakers. I am currently looking to buy the Denon 485S for about $299 and the JBL E60.

I would like to know if there are other receivers that have similar costs but have better features / value. Please advice.

Thank you.

Going with Denon seems a good start.

Good Luck

$300 should be able to get you an HK235 or even 335 from Harman Audio on eBay, with full direct HK warranty.

You could also try out the recently released Panasonic sa-xr55 pure-digital receiver ($225 shipped from jandr.com), have read some incredible things about its predecessors.

The onkyo TX-LR552 is digital and discreet - I have the panasonic sa-xr10 ( upper model ), and I like the onkyo even more. Sounds smoother and warmer to me.

I prefer this one to receivers many times over.

Another good budget all-digital receiver is the Panasonic sa-xr55 ($225 shipped from jandr.com) which finally has binding posts instead of those nasty little spring clips.
