Yamaha R700

Hi all,

I've had a Yamaha R700 receiver for 24 years. Its always sounded good to me. Today I heard a pop, lost one speaker channel only, and smoke began coming out the top of the unit... I turned it off.

I'm not real interested in spending a lot of money on a new receiver. Can this unit be repaired at reasonable cost? Roughly how much would I need to spend on a new one to get equivalent sound (primarily interested in playing CDs not radio). I don't know anything about the core quality of today's receivers compared to older ones, but I recall hearing that the older units are often better in some respects.

Thanks!,
Tim
