I am looking for entry level receivers for my new athena 5.1 speakers, I have found two decent deals at circuit city and bestbuy. hk avr125- 250 usd yamaha 5460- 210 usd which would sound better with the athena's ?
Definately go for the HK. Athena speakers are fairly bright sounding, as is the Yamaha, so when you put them together, the sound will be very shrill. I listened to Athena speakers with a Yamaha once and I had to quit after a little while because the sound was so bright. The movie playing contained a car chase scene, and the main sounds you could hear were of glass breaking...the voices and other lower sounds were kind of drowned out by the brightness. For under $300, I think the HK combo is probably the best you can do.
