How can I detect a blown fuse in a receiver

Either by looking at the fuse or, if needed, using a VOM to test continuity.

Where do I find the fuse, I looked last night but didn't know where to look or what the fuse of a receiver looks like.

You will have to remove the cover from the receiver. This could, though should not, void any warranty. Make certain the amplifier is unplugged and do not poke around. The power supply caps next to the fuse(s) still carry high voltage even when the amp is unplugged. The fuse will be at the back of the amp usually around where the power cord enters. Stick nothing metalic into the chassis. The fuse may be difficult to remove, manufacturers do not want people randomly trying to repair what they do not understand. Not all amps use fuses as some will have solid state protection circuits.
