Sub amps, home and car

I was wondering if most home and car sub amps are about the same, that is to say are they both usually 4ohms? I have a cheap klh home audio sub model number(ASW10-100C). It is 100 watts and at high volume levels it seems to drop out when lower bass hits. Now, would it solve the problem or possibly help if i replaced the sub (which is 10") with a car audio sub rated at 4 ohms? or would a woofer that is made for home audio subs (that was ordered from a speaker parts web page be alot better of a bet? would any woofer with the same ohm rating be completley compatible? thanks for your help!
