Speaker insulation

what is the best? I got these Old kenwood speakers...will putting more insulation give it a warmer bass?(its pretty empty right now) THanks!

What would be the purpose of insulation then??

I have insulation in my speakers......

just curious?

The material inside your speakers provides acoustic dampening; both to the cabinet and the backwave of the drivers. It affects what is called the "Q" of the speaker system. To understand more about its use, you might want to look at some sites on speaker design.

This article from Wireless World has much information about speaker damping. It is from quite a few years ago, but the info is still valid. :-)

The enclosure type described in that article is a standard transmission line. Here is a company that currently uses that technology. Click at the bottom right of the page on "transmission line explained".
